unlike many people, i think that scene is so beautiful and meaningful. i wanna talk about this scene from vi’s perspective, and more specifically about touch and her past with physical violence.
all she's ever known is pain, violence and physical abuse. it's how she copes and what she'd had to live with her whole life: since she was a child, to protect powder and the others, being in prison for 7 years and getting beat up, using her fists in every fight, getting punched by cait, then jinx (literally in the scene before this one) becoming a pit fighter and using all she knows to cope with any emotion she has
Tumblr media
Vi needed, deserved that closeness, that intimacy, a touch that isnt a violent one, a form of trust and warmth that she has never gotten, especially after everything physically abusive that she went through until now, she's finally allowed and able to feel loved and cared for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and cait didn't apologize for hurting vi the way that she did, but i believe that scene was a step towards forgiveness and redemption. it's about second chances and saving their relationship from the curse it was in, the oil and water curse.

i have a headcanon that Yoichi trims AFO's hair because i can't help but compare AFO's nicely trimmed hair to Yoichi's and i thought someone had to have cut AFO's hair for him and it is only logical for me to assume it was Yoichi who did. I think AFO would only trust Yoichi to be so close to him with a sharp object like a pair of scissors lol
I think Yoichi would have also liked cutting his brother's hair at first, because it would make him feel helpful in a way? And I just think even when AFO put him in the vault, AFO would still go there to get his hair trimmed by Yoichi.
and once Yoichi joins the resistance, he offers to do this for Kudo as well.

There's an aspect of Original!Elias Bouchard that makes me so sad to think about in a weird kind of "meta" way.
And that's the fact that he has to be labelled as the "OG" not as Elias.
Technically speaking Elias has been dead for years. It's Jonah that's taken over - literally having his eyes removed and replacing them with his own and living as him (he even seemingly keeps his "old fashioned haircut" on Elias' hair).
And yet we as the audience don't often call that form of Jonah "JONAH". Instead it's Elias, cause he's been Elias for 4 series at this point.
"Elias started the apocalypse", "Elias beat that old man to death with a metal pipe" when it was never really Elias in the first place.
He's been so robbed of his own identity that not even death can spare him; all of Jonah's actions in his body are recognised as him.
(Btw this isn't me saying you can't call Jonah!Elias straight up Elias, I do that regularly ofc. I'm just being emo rn lol)

I wonder if something could be said about Ashley's apparent penchant for drawing.
Leyley used to draw a lot. This, in itself, is nothing special: many kids draw as a hobby. The most noteworthy thing is that Leyley loved to draw so much, she'd do it on the walls, which Andy had to clean...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
... and on Andy's notes, which made it difficult for him to study.
Tumblr media
I don't need to say that this is just one of the many ways Leyley begged for attention and approval, which most surely had the opposite effect.
However, what made me pause a bit are three completely separate scenes.
This is in the very opening of the game:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We don't see Ashley drawing as an adult, but she doesn't seem to be very confident in herself. Then again, at this point in the game, it could be just goodhearted self-deprecation. It does say something, however, that she's still clinging onto that drawing, both because it's so old and not good-looking, and what it represents.
This is after Ashley, as a teen, has a meltdown over Andrew "seeing Julia":
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andrew is being mean, but to be fair to him, he's also angry and interprets the torn drawing as a way to make him feel bad, so I'll let it pass. The artstyle is so crude, I assume this is another old drawing: the lemon muffin is a reference to a way Andy celebrated Leyley's birthday when they were kids, so it's possible she drew it back then. And then kept it for years, before destroying it in a fit of heartbroken rage. It's how she conveyed her love for her brother, and it was that important to her, that apparently, she still had it in grabbing and tearing vicinity. Her hate for Nina is as important as her love for Andrew.
(the other option is, of course, that it's a much more recent drawing, and yes, this is a pretty abysmal way of drawing for a teen who apparently has been doing so for years. I still wouldn't call it garbage though, Andrew, she meant well :<)
Not much after that scene, Andrew also tells us this:
Tumblr media
Whether Ashley still draws in her teen years or has stopped, at least we know it's more important to her than her homework, and enough for Andrew to comment on it.
And this is an offhand comment Renee makes to her mother while pretending she doesn't regret her life choices and children.
Tumblr media
This is how Renee chooses to paint Ashley in a good light: by praising her art. Which is a lie, of course, because even back then she wasn't exactly Leonardo Da Vinci, but hey, grandma doesn't need to know about that. Worthy of note is that, despite doing everything in her power to interact with her daughter as little as possible, she did notice how much Leyley likes to draw (although afawk it could be because she once saw her drawing on the walls, so it's even more of a backhanded compliment).
So I suppose Leyley's cry for attention did work, in part.
It's a running gag that Ashley is a pretty bad artist. More than once, people point out she struggles to draw circles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of attention seeking behavior, and how Renee keeps denying it.
So, what do I take from this?
That Ashley had a predisposition for drawing, clearly enjoying it regardless of her talent, and partially did so as a way to yell "look at me! I'm a person too! I have feelings, here they are!" at the world; but that predisposition was never nurtured, neglected as she was. Her art was ugly at best, a bother at worst. So she never developed her artistic skills, stagnated, and now she's a "bad" artist, which she resents. It's quite a shame, because of all the ways you could vent your feelings, art is by far the healthiest. Perhaps she would have been less destructive.
Naturally, this is part of one of the game's key themes: Ashley never grew up. She wasn't given the tools to, and now, she doesn't even want to. So she never developed past the "Leyley" phase of her life, still drawing in a childish way, still "playing" with her bunny plushies in her mind, still clinging onto her child self when Andrew wants nothing more than to grow up (or so he says). Much like her art, she too was seen mostly as an embarrassment, and so never improved. But every scrap of attention Andrew gives her? Means the world to her. And that's why she keeps going.
Lastly: every ending of the game comes with a crude crayon drawing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It makes me believe that Ashley's art, ugly and childish as it is, is an important part of her, and her perception of the world.

꒰ DEVOTION ꒱ OKKOTSU YUUTA X READER
cw: mdni. yandere yuuta. alcohol mention. implied drugging. implied noncon. a/n: a quick elaboration of this thought (yuuta is the king of gaslighting).
Tumblr media
There’s a hickey on your inner thigh.
It’s a conclusion you arrived at as you pulled on a pair of fresh underwear this morning; there’s no other way to explain the amaranthine bloom on the supple (and otherwise unmarred) flesh. The spot is tender to the touch—its sensitivity proof that it’s indeed fresh.
Yuuta listens thoughtfully when you bring up the suspicious mark, nodding periodically as you walk him through your concerns.
Rubbing your temples, you sigh. “I’m just confused, Yuu, because we didn’t fuck last night.”
“We didn’t make love, no. We both had a bit to drink and fell asleep before anything could happen.”
“So—” you point to the mottled skin “—what’s this?”
He leans closer to inspect the mark. Jet strands fall across his vision, and he pushes his hair back when he sits up. “Honestly? It looks like a bruise to me.”
“But my bruises are never this color,” you frown.
“A bug bite, maybe?”
You shake your head. “My skin isn’t raised and it doesn’t itch.”
After a few beats of silence, you clear your throat. “Yuuta. You didn’t, um…” Your eyes flit your boyfriend’s, and you get lost in the serenity of his gaze—the slow swell of the sea on a hazy day. He looks at you sincerely, without any judgement or frustration; you can’t bring yourself to finish the question.
“I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be accusatory; I’m just at a loss.”
He smiles softly with a tilt of his head (it’s your favorite expression of his—one that’s etched into your memory). He spreads a palm across your thigh, his thumb gently stroking the spot in question. “I want you to feel comfortable saying anything you want to me. I’m your safe space.”
Your heart swells at his words. He’s too good for you, truly.
He continues, “Maybe it’s just a fluke. As long as it heals, I wouldn’t worry too much.”
You nod. “I’m not sure why I was so worked up. It seems silly, now. Thank you, Yuu.”
Yuuta wraps his arms around you and pulls you into a warm embrace; you bury your face into his chest with a contented sigh. He rubs your back, trying not to think back to last night, willing his cock to behave. But he can’t stop replaying the highlights in his mind: the little pill he slipped you when you weren’t looking, your precious snores as he spread you out on the bed, and your angelic expression as he had his way with you, leaving a surprise on your thigh—
A mark of his devotion.

'The blade cuts both ways'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I interpret Caitlyn’s entire fight with Ambessa as both her atoning for her mistakes and taking on a punishment for them (something discussed in a great tiktok I linked here), but I really like this element at the end.
Ambessa uses Caitlyn’s own blade to carry out the symbolic blow to her eye.
Ambessa, the enemy who Caitlyn was ‘sidled up’ with as she lost sight of what was important in her need for revenge. The enemy who is much stronger physically than Caitlyn, who manipulated both sides of the conflict for her own ends.
Caitlyn cannot hold her off. And Ambessa, the character embodying Caitlyn’s reckoning with her poor choices, enacts the symbolic punishment. Caitlyn lost sight of what was important, and now an eye must be taken as both atonement and punishment (I think there’s a lot you could further interpret about it not being Caitlyn’s dominant shooting eye, i.e. the one which embodies precision and clear vision, and how this reflects her grappling with herself in act 2 until she does finally betray Ambessa).
There’s so much more I want to say about this entire fight which I might put in a separate post, but I think it’s a neat detail that this is Caitlyn’s own weapon doing the cutting. The weapon she had already used to get a hit on Ambessa, slicing her thigh, but which is used against her in the end, as her own grief and anger was (also fun to parallel with the fact that she was supposed to be executed by her beloved weapon- the rifle).
Caitlyn may have got a hit on Ambessa, but she hurt herself by working with her in the first place and now is hurt physically in this moment of reckoning- the blade cuts both ways.
But, as a final note, it’s important to also consider that Caitlyn also uses this moment as part of her atonement. She is able to outwit Ambessa, and her sacrifice allows her and Mel to finally take Ambessa down as she cuts the runes from Ambessa’s arm (pulling the dagger out of her own side to do so!!).

The way you draw Huzzle Mug so expressive is great. I love when you draw it using its hands very expressively and being quite emotional <3
Tumblr media
Thank you! I very much Love drawing and pushing expressions for Huzzle Mug! It is a fun design to play with expressions wise since in game it is already super expressive :) I very much see Huzzle mug as a side on the same coin as Bauhauzzo- easily lost in its own emotions and lets them potentially dictate it's actions- after all it believed Bauhauzzo actually willingly betrayed it and no longer was its friend in game after his "BETRAEULTRY!!" . They both rely heavily on the other god to ground them emotionally and function without getting lost in the waves of their emotions.
Bauhauzzo calms Huzzle when it gets worked up, and Huzzle brightens Bauhauzzo up so he doesn't lose himself in the past and can look to the future.
